If there is one thing children love its humour – mum or dad joking around making them laugh. Humour is an amazing way to bond and communicate with your child and if used well it can diffuse a situation or make it much less serious. If you have the choice of getting angry and possibly shouting at your child humour is much better option.
I was discussing humour the other day with some girlfriends and when I think of it I also use it to get my children out of a bad mood and use it when they or I make mistakes or have a silly accident.
When do you use it and do you use it often enough?

I look at it from the other end-how we can learn from the things that make our kids laugh and things that amuse them.
What they feel is what you see.
Humour is one of my all time favorite parenting techniques! It is a great way to diffuse a tense situation or redirect behaviour without “correcting”
Susie, yes there are always too sides to everything and a way to leasrn more about our children. Thank you for the comment.
Erin as you can tell it is one of mine too but I wonder do all kids love humour. I am yet to meet one who doesn’t. Thank you for the comment.
I can say with certaintly that humour is an absolutely essential part of raising and loving teenage boys – they LOVE humour and can quickly be coaxed out of a mood or silly attitude with it – essential.
I wonder if boys respond better to it than girls. My boys love it too. It took a while for them to get used to my type of humour though! Thank you for the comment Yvette and glad it works for you too.
