Raising Confident ChildrenThere are so many way to help a child feel more confident when they are struggling. Beliefs and thoughts can hold them back in achieving something they want – they may even find standing up for themselves difficult. We have talked about this is previous blogs and helping a child become confident does not happen overnight. It can takes weeks or months for them to feel amazing, go for what they want and have a voice that is heard. Once parents have cracked it and your child is feeling like this and is able to feel good it will be so worth it.

Ideas For Raising A Confident Child

  1. Enrol them in out of school activities which encourage them to make new friends outside of school and try a new skill. Making new friends will boost their self-esteem.
  2. Praise your child to other people so that they overhear. That will make them feel very proud of who they are.
  3. Do not allow your child to criticise themselves.
  4. Encourage them to display their achievements/certificates/medals in their bedroom or on the kitchen board so they can see them and feel proud.
  5. Show interest in your child’s ambitions and dreams. All children love parents being interested in what they are doing.
  6. Encourage your child to make their own decisions.
  7. Ask your child for their opinion or advice on something.
  8. Invite your child to help out with jobs you are doing and teach them how to do them well.
  9. Attend their school plays or go into school to help out.
  10. Teach your child to say ‘no’ when they are asked by another person something that goes against their morals and values and see their reaction.

Follow these tips and watch your child grow as they becoming more confident in themselves and how they relate to other people.
