As part of my life coaching role, I always like to check in with the children I am working with to find out what they think of school and if they are enjoying it. Many children will say that they find school boring. They don’t like the subject taught, (or the way it is taught). They are not challenged in the lesson or they find it ‘not fun’. This means that they are not always going to take in what they are supposed to be learning.
Learning should be fun but it can be hard to engage children with a subject inside school. So how about parents help their children outside of the school day, so they have a new attitude to the subject when they are at school?
Using Apps & Resources to Encourage Learning
Finding ways to make learning enjoyable is essential when traditional methods fail. Online apps and games can offer a dynamic alternative. Through interactive platforms, children can learn different subjects in a way that they find more entertaining and enjoyable.
For example, there are language learning apps like Duolingo that can help with foreign languages through games. For help with Maths, there are educational websites like Prodigy Math Games which combines math challenges with adventure elements. Both can make learning fun. If memory is a problem there are also memory-enhancing apps like Quizlet that use repetition techniques to reinforce learning. It’s really useful when a child needs to learn something over and over again before it sinks in, and I know so many children who love using this app.
Using apps and resources can support their learning at school if they tend to zone out in class but need a refresh and a reminder of what they learnt at school in a different way.
By tapping into the vast resources available online, (and there are some amazing ones), parents can start to ignite their children’s passion for a subject and focus at school. It is so important that children enjoy school, see the benefits of learning, and find a fun way to learn.
