Lately I have been doing a lot of speaking gigs in schools. The most recent was to 400 primary school children. They were celebrating literary week and I was asked to speak about what it is like being an author and a life coach for children. It was amazing talking to the children about my journey but what was more amazing was the response of the children. They sat on the floor wide eyed and were hanging onto every word I said and when it came to questions there were so many hands going up. On my way home it got me thinking about inspiring children and that by sharing our stories we can really inspire our own children and the children we come into contact with. It can get the children to think about who they are, what they have to offer and what they are capable of.
Inspiring Children By Sharing Your Story
As parents we don’t often talk about how we got to where we are and what we have done in life. Maybe we should. We need to be inspiring our children so that they see that we too have had setbacks and adventures. That we did not always get everything right but here we are doing well at something, making money (hopefully) and loving what we do (again hopefully). The journey may have taken lots of twists and turns but here we are. We may still have things we want to achieve too. Talk to them about those ideas and what you are going to do to make them happen.
Children love to hear stories so share yours and get their aunties and uncles to share theirs. Maybe you could also talk about people in the news too. Many of them had to work hard to achieve what they wanted. They need to see that anything is possible and that to succeed you just need to keep going – challenging yourself and setting new goals too.
